Do a 5K!

I am walking and jogging in many fund-raising race events coming up. Not only are these great for my fitness and mean lots of burned calories, it also if for very good causes.

I am first doing the Pints to Pasta 10K. This event  donates a portion of it’s proceeds to The Raphael House of Portland and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s TEAM IN TRAINING. This is a very fun event, and I have wanted to do it for years.

Next up is the Susan G Komen Race For The Cure. This 5K event is the one that I started doing many years ago, and still has a special place in my heart.

Komen is the largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. Look to us for information and inspiration. It is through the strength of our partnership with the community that we can continue this fight together.

We are dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage – from the cause to the cures, to the pain and anxiety of every moment in between. We can and will win this battle together.  We’re on a mission – Join Us!

Lastly, I am participating in the Light The Night Walk. This 5K event is new for me, but has the most meaning. I lost my father to Acute Leukemia on April 2nd. It appears that it may be a hereditary form, therefore myself and my girls are at risk. I want to do everything I can to keep us, as well as every other person out there that much safer from this deadly cancer. I am doing this walk in honor of my dad.

Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s evening walk and fund-raising event. It is the nation’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

You can help!

  • You can donate to these causes by clicking on the highlighted links above to donate money. Did you know many companies and employers match donations of their employees? Ask your Human Resources department if you company does this.  Any amount, small or large, helps one more person out there.
  • You can participate by joining me (locally or in your own city) by walking or running and fund-raising on your own. Active.com is one place you can start by finding local events in your city.

How are you going to participate?
